personalSCADA™

Design your SCADA solution like an airport, not like a fortress!

Have you ever wished you could design a bullet-proof SCADA solution without worrying about how many points and users it will be able to serve eventually or its future enterprise connectivity? personalSCADA™ has all the flexibility that you need to build that solution today for tomorrow.

personalSCADA's Enterprise Information Architecture

Figure: Unlike conventional SCADA products, personalSCADA's enterprise information architecture enables you to build secure and flexible solutions that can be implemented rapidly!

Conventional SCADA model

The conventional SCADA model is limited in handling the needs of enterprise users:

Enterprise Information Management

  • Traditionally, SCADA systems were used for supervisory automation and control functions rather than information management
  • Also, most SCADA systems do not cater to multiple user types especially non-SCADA, enterprise users

Information security

  • Conventional SCADA systems provide perimeter security, which is susceptible to holes when the SCADA system is expanded or integrated with other systems
  • In addition, SCADA systems generally do not address the need for high-level of granularity in managing authorization for multiple types of users

Presentation is often mixed with processing

  • This creates challenges when offering different types of user interfaces to different operational and business users who need to access the SCADA system
  • Most SCADA systems provide rigid user interfaces that can not be personalized easily to meet different needs of different user profiles

Configuration is tied to hardware structure

  • Often, the first step in configuration is to determine the hardware infrastructure that hosts the SCADA system, and then the configuration is tied to the specific infrastructure structure. Thus, system expansion is always a new project
  • Being tied to a specific infrastructure makes it very difficult or expensive to create standby (failover) configuration

Key Concepts of personalSCADA™

personalSCADA™ is designed to suite the new information age by eliminating the above mentioned limitations of the conventional SCADA model.

Designed to manage information

  • personalSCADA is built upon Eutech's patented real-time information management framework. Service Agents are responsible for managing backend processes whereas Personal Agents deliver personalized views of the system
  • Unlike conventional SCADA systems, information exchange between SCADA and enterprise-level applications is done through open databases or XML

Simple user interface that can be personalized

  • personalSCADA offers a 'zero code development' environment with drag-and-drop configuration to allow rapid deployment as well as personalization by different users
  • It is designed to hide backend complexity and allow a homogeneous working space across multiple subsystems
  • User views can be personalized without compromising system security

Information security

  • personalSCADA's information security model is built into the product architecture
  • personalSCADA offers secure remote access through patent pending 'Catseye™ Agent for SCADA' for greater security for Internet access to the SCADA system
  • Also, because of CatseyeAgent's application-level authentication, there is no requirement to 'punch holes' in the security system to allow 3rd party integration

Project-based expansion

personalSCADA is designed for system integration engineers. It has multiple ways to expand it functionality to fit complex project solutions.

  • C++ & VB Application Programming Interface (API) for real-time data access
  • Ability to plug-in custom-built drivers
  • Ability to plug-in user interface and application components to expand the functionality

Designed to handle real world SCADA problems

personalSCADA is not 'just another SCADA system'. It is specially designed to handle hard system integration problems, especially in complex projects. Among the key capabilities in this regard are:

  • Single central configuration while the backend processing is distributed among many computers. This means, it is possible to add processing power dynamically without changing the configuration
  • It allows easy implementation of standby operation (redundancy and failover strategies)
  • It allows implementation of control strategies using external expert-systems
