Eutech Cybernetics leads Consortium to Implement Island-Wide Energy NetworkIsland-Wide Intelligent Energy Network, Wednesday, July 18, 2001 Eutech Cybernetics, a leading provider of end-to-end network-centric software solutions for Infrastructure Management, which includes Intelligent Building and Facility Management, today announced that it would be spearheading a Consortium of Companies to implement an Intelligent Energy Network (IEN) in Singapore. It is envisaged that this Network will transform the current meter and bill system to a real-time, interconnected and interactive market place. The IEN makes use of the intelligent software agent developed by Eutech that works over the Internet and responds, in real time, to events such as power fluctuations, outages and changes in electricity price. Intelligent software agents are entities that can work autonomously and intelligently to perform operations – such as monitoring and controlling a valve - on behalf of a user. Software agents are mobile and can sit anywhere on a network or the Internet, so that the user can be in a remote location and the agent is close to the point that is being controlled. Eutech’s solution enables millions of agents to operate at the same time, each working on behalf of a specific user. Agents could also collaborate with each other in real time to solve complex problems. The IEN will make it more feasible to incorporate environmentally friendly, micro-power generation resources – such as gas microturbines and fuels cells located close to the consumer to supplement power from the grid. This would enable the production of high quality electricity that could serve the specific needs of specific consumers. This would be of great importance for “high tech” users, semiconductor plants and data centers. When completed, the Energy Network will be of great value to both consumers and generators of electricity in Singapore. Dr. Hari Gunasingham, CEO of Eutech Cybernetics said, "Buildings can 'plug and play' into the Energy Network to optimize the consumption of energy by aggregating the demand of many buildings and even sell excess electricity – from local micro-power generators- back to the grid. This will allow the creation of virtual electric utilities and enhance the energy management capabilities of companies in the deregulated energy market in Singapore." The Energy Network will be built with Eutech’s flagship software platform iViva.works™ and is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2002. Eutech has invested over US$20 million dollars in the development of the iViva.works™ software platform, which was introduced for the first time in 1998. Key members of the Energy Network consortium include:
Dr. Hari said, "Deregulation brings about new supply and demand dynamics to the electricity market in Singapore. Consumers will require the ability to manage their electricity purchasing with greater flexibility and generators of electricity will also require new approaches to managing their business. Our Intelligent Energy Network aims to fulfill the energy management needs of both consumers and generators of electricity." About Eutech Cybernetics Eutech Cybernetics’ customers include global 1000 companies. The Company, which has over 600 installations of iViva.works™ globally, works through partners such as Eggsystems.com. Eggsystems.com, would be a key partner in the Intelligent Energy Network project. |
